Berlin
for Haiti
Haiti needs
help!
Only
short-term extraneous support will enable Haiti to help itself in the long-run.
Haiti’s infrastructure, rudimentary already prior to the catastrophy, will
remain dysfunctional for a long period of time. Things taken for granted in
developed countries on the Northern hemisphere, are missing on Haiti’s way back
to life’s normality. Most parts of the country are destroyed.
At the
outset of the rainy season, millions of people live in emergency accommodations
and tents, made of inappropriate and most simple materials that were at hand
after the earthquake. People, many of them still suffering from serious
injuries, are lacking primary health care. The missing supply of fuel is
significantly confining the transport of relief supplies to where they are
desperately needed. To a large extend, the port of Port au Prince is destroyed
so that air supply by air is the only way for humanitarian aid to get into
Haiti.
The people in
Haiti urgently need logistic, medical and also psychological relief in order to
fight the challenges of their new reality and to feel encouraged to build a new
future.
Berlin and
Miami based Gallery Schuster has set-up an initiative to provide a small
contribution itself and encourage others to follow. On Sunday, March 21st
2010, Gallery Schuster is conducting an auction of high-class pieces of
international art. The art works will be presented both in Haiti’s Cultural
Center in Miami and on the Internet. All proceeds will exclusively be provided
to “Doctors without Borders” (doctorswithoutborders.org) exclusively which
guarantees a deployment of all grants in their activities for Haiti.
Gallery Schuster is addressing galleries in the city of Berlin,
affiliated artists, local and regional art centers, museum directors and
collectors to consider donations of art works for the auction.
The Consulate
General of Germany in Miami and also the Consulate General of Haiti in Miami
will support this initiative. The logistic cooperation partner for the initiative
is the Little Haiti Cultural Center in Miami, represented by its Director Rasha
Cameau. Both Haiti’s Consul General Ralph Latortue and Klaus H.D. Ranner,
Consul General of Germany in Miami will be present during the auctioning event.
What is
going to happen on the weekend of March 20th and 21st
2010?
